Exploring Acrylics with Lise Gaffney will be canceled this Friday

But will continue next Friday the 13th at Ben Franklin's in Grass Valley from 1:00-3:00
We had so much fun drawing in the last class in preparation for our paintings that I am inspired to teach a Drawing class based on the New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Workbook by Betty Edwards.
I have followed her methods since I was a teenager, and am really excited to work through this New workbook with a group of people interested in creating for themselves a strong drawing foundation. All levels would be welcome.  This class would be perfect for beginners.

If you are interested in learning new ways of looking at things and want to get confident in your sketching ability, please come on Fridays from 1:00-3:00 and sign up at the paper arts desk near the front just before the class.  The cost is $20/class and I do ask for you to let me know when possible if you will be coming or not.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you, Lise Gaffney

Exploring Acrylics Class with Lise Gaffney

This Friday the 30th of March, at Ben Franklin's in Grass Valley from 1:00-3:00
We will be attempting to set our minds aside so that we can paint figuratively in a special way, free of the mind's judgement.
We will choose from different line drawings of people, and copy them upsidedown.  You will be suprised how well you can draw when you have to use the right side of your brain by looking at something in a new way.

Then the fun begins when we get to turn our canvas over and get busy painting!
All levels welcome, sign up at the paper arts desk at least 15minutes before class.
You will need a basic set of acrylic paints, a canvas (at least 12X12)  and some brushes
an old shirt and snacks may make things more enjoyable as well.

A Special note:  This class may not continue much longer unless enrollment increases.  If this time does work for you please consider making it work in your schedule and e- mailing me in advance if you can or can not make it.
Thank you,

Acrylic Exploration Class Fridays @ Ben Franklins

Hi Everyone,

This Friday we will have fun creating our own Still Life paintings.
Please bring in drift wood, cloth coverings, flowers, shells, bottles, bones, hats, anything interesting to you that you would like to incorporate into your painting.
I will bring some items and have one set up, but you may want your own arrangement.

Please bring a basic set of acrylics and brushes, and you will want to bring or buy a 16x20 or smaller canvas (smaller if you want it to be done in the time given.)
You also can bring a camera to capture your still life, so you can continue working on it at home if you want.

This will be a really fun class, I can feel it.

When the student is ready the teacher appears.  Are you ready?  Maybe I am your teacher.
I am an experienced local art teacher who has worked with all ages by providing a supportive creative atmosphere for people to explore and gain confidence in the Studio Arts.
I grew up in California in a rural part of Napa County.  My family owned a display business and a cattle ranch.  My parents and grandparents (and my siblings and I) would travel far and wide installing department store windows and building county displays at Cal Expo in Sacramento. So growing up I was confused when people asked me what medium I liked to work with the most.  Was I a sculptor? A painter? A sign painter?  Was I even an artist?  I loved paper mache', welding, plaster, painting, building and designing. I had a lot of freedom and a lot of choices.  Unfortunately, as many of us do , I turned away from my passion for Art and went to school and studied Science at Humboldt State University.  I loved it all, but when I would walk through the Art buildings and smell linseed oil, I would come to tears... to see and feel and smell all the materials was like missing home in the worst way.
Only recently after a whole lot of time not doing art, and a whole lot of life and a four year old daughter, have I come into accepting myself as an artist.  I am proud  to say that I have a local amazing Art Mentor named Lil McGill, who has ignited my creative fire.  I now identify as an Abstract Artist who tries to step out of the way and let Spirit paint through me.  I like to paint with acrylic paints on raw canvas using spray bottles and lots of rags, and watch in wonder at what appears.  I have a free and messy process.
I love what I do, and would love to help you tap into your own style.  Please come and explore the Acrylic medium with me on Fridays at Ben Franklin.

    Thank you, Lise Gaffney

How to Market your Art

I did get some great info last night at the "How to Market your Art".  As usual one of the best things was meeting more local artist and connecting with the ones I already know and love!  I walked away feeling very inspired!  Not only about what I'm going to do with marketing myself but a feeling of accomplishment for what I've done so far.  I'm on my way, I'm following my passion and dreams, I'm making them real for the first time in my life.  AND IT FEELS GREAT!
